Our Story: Quentie and Carissa

From Support Workers to Quest Founders

Quentie and Carissa first crossed paths as support workers in supported accommodation—now known as Supported Independent Living (SIL)—where we worked with four women who had complex diagnoses and diverse needs. Through our shared dedication, we developed a strong rapport, witnessing firsthand the challenges and rewards of providing care in such a nuanced environment. We both also worked as independent support workers, broadening our experience and deepening our understanding of the sector.

In addition to our extensive practical experience, we pursued further studies to enhance our ability to support others. Quentie completed qualifications as a Social Worker, focusing on holistic approaches to wellbeing and community engagement, while Carissa became a Developmental Educator, specialising in strategies to empower people with disabilities to reach their full potential. Our advanced training as therapists has been instrumental in shaping our work, allowing us to bring evidence-based practice, empathy, and expertise to every interaction.

Over the years, our professional journeys continued to intertwine. Whether collaborating directly or encouraging one another’s pursuits, we consistently upheld our dedication to high standards and person-centred care.

The onset of the pandemic highlighted gaps in the industry—particularly the difficulty in sourcing high-quality support workers who could genuinely connect with our clients, and the lack of groups that embodied our high standards and met the needs of the people we supported.

Driven by these challenges and inspired by our shared vision, we decided to merge our independent businesses in the midst of the pandemic, forming Quest. The idea grew from our experiences with young people who would have brought great energy and spirit to each other, but whom we couldn’t introduce due to confidentiality rules.

Quest was founded as a solution: a place where exceptional support workers can be found, and where groups not only meet but exceed expectations—creating spaces for meaningful connection and support for everyone involved.
